We Believe

We Believe

Essentials of Our Faith

God

We believe God is the creator of man and all things.

Genesis 1:1; Acts 17:24-31

Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son and Savior of the world.

John 3:16; Matthew 1:18; John 20:24-31

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit lives within every Christian empowering them to live a holy life and equipping them with gifts for serving others.

John 16:5-15; Acts 2:38; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for all matters of faith.

Romans 15:4; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Salvation

We believe salvation (the forgiveness of sins) comes by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ (His death on the cross).

Leviticus 17:11; Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:8-9

We believe the Bible teaches the way a person receives Jesus Christ as their Savior is to…
1) Believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died for your sins
2) Confess Jesus as your Lord (Master)
3) Turn from any idolatry or wickedness (repent)
4) Be baptized (immersed) in obedience to the Lord’s command
5) Follow Jesus
Acts 2,8,9,10,16,18,19,22

Eternal Security

We believe death seals the eternal destiny of each person. The saved will inherit eternal life; the unsaved, eternal separation from God.

Romans 8:10-11; John 6:47; Hebrews 9:27-28

Sin

We believe that man, created by God and in God’s image, willfully sinned, and as a result, is lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12;Romans 3:21-24;1 John 1:7

One

We believe in one God-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9-10, 16-17

The Church

We believe the church is the body and bride of Christ consisting of all Christians everywhere, called to declare the praises of God and fulfill the mission of making disciples of Jesus.

Matthew 16:13-18; Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Peter 2:9

Leadership

We believe it is God’s plan for appointed elders to lead the local church. Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-4

Baptism

We believe that baptism by immersion is declared in Scripture as the God-ordained method for giving one’s heart to God, trusting Christ, and receiving the Holy Spirit. We acknowledge that there are circumstances where God can save people by looking at the heart. God is not bound by baptism, but we are. Therefore, to become a member of Lanesville Christian Church we require that you be immersed in Baptism.
